Got this bike.

Supposedly a '78 XLH. Talked to Zac at ((HEAVY)) and Gator and was told that the bottom-end of the engine needs to be gone through and fixed, so that'll be a winter project.

  3. How far are you into the bike now?
What color are you going to paint it?

  4. I replaced the tappets and tappet blocks. New generator armature and solid state voltage regulator. It doesn't smoke anymore, but I didn't really do anything to the rings or valves yet. Compression is 155 psi in the front cylinder and 150 in the rear, which is pretty damn good.
Actually, she really purrs now. No more hard starting, the top end is a lot quieter, just all-around better performance. Next thing I'm going to do is the wiring though. Shane told me it was original, and it sure looks like it. I got a short somewhere and blew a fuse last week. I think I'm going to do the vintage cotton cloth wiring.
Other than that I still plan to do a bottom end rebuild if it's necessary.
As far as color I'm not sure, I hate to admit it, but the green is kind of growing on me. Ed Hardy has to go though. No matter what. I was thinking of just doing bare metal with something like old WWII-style nose art, or just plain text.
Thanks for the interest man, to be honest it's kind of encouraging that someone's paying attention.

    Btw...mopar rocks.

  6. Ha, I've heard that too. It's still in a lot of pieces right now. I was taking the flywheels apart and saw that the sprocket shaft was cracked, so I have to order a new one of those. It's kind of been like that the whole time. Every time I do a little bit of work on it, I find something else that needs to be replaced. Hopefully it'll be back together before summer's over so I can have a little time to ride.
